Coop got his staples out yesterday. Jeff wanted to take him and he had to be in NYC this week so the vet said it was fine to take them out now. He is now licking the area and I keep shaking the cone at him but he won’t stop! I put the lick guard on and that keeps him a way for a short while until it wears off. Gives me a couple of hours of relief from cone shaking (which does no good anyway). I go back to work today so he better be good! The vet will call the oncologist today to get the chemo regime. Since it is oral, I see no reason to drive to Ithaca just to give Coop a pill. I think our vet can handle it! He said it won’t start until week 3 so we have a week before dealing with it! Other than that, Coop amazed everyone at the vet’s office with his recovery. He is as strong as ever-pulled the poor vet tech when he saw another dog while going in for his staple removal! So things still going well.
Here is a picture of what is left of wubba and another toy. I had cleaned up all the stuffing…it looked like it had snowed in my kitchen and I can’t have that during the 3 months of summer in upstate New York!!!
There, I killed those pesky things that invaded the house while I was recooperating!!

What chemo pill are you giving Coop and who is saying you can’t give them yourself? We gave Jerry his metronomics (Cytoxan).
Congrats on getting your staples out! I remember getting mine out- it felt so much better- I went out in the yard and rolled and rolled to itch the spot good!
We also give Rio her CCNU pills for that part of her chemo. The only reason we actually go into the vet or oncologist are when we need bloodwork or for the IV chemo (Vinblastine).

Things are finally settling after our vacation and so I had a chance to read Coop’s entire blog – he’s wonderful! I’m so glad to hear he’s doing well.
Tate was on CCNU and we gave it to him ourselves, lots of precautions but we managed fine. We did have to go in for a final blood check each time but they just gave us the pills. I suppose as long as you are there, they figure they may as well do it and save you the hassle.
I believe the pill is CCNU and they have said we can give them to him ourself, I was more referring to the oncologist from Cornell-I don’t think I need to go there for the treatment. My vet here can give us the pills and do the bloodwork. We really haven’t discussed this part of the treatment in detail.
